President Bola Tinubu has made appointments in key agencies, appointing Dr. Innocent Barikor as the Director-General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulation Enforcement Agency and Ebitimi Amgbare as the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority.

The Presidency made the announcement on Friday in a statement signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, under the title ‘President Tinubu appoints chief executive officers of two agencies.’

Dr. Innocent Barikor, a distinguished academic, politician, and former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2015, has been appointed as the new Director-General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulation Enforcement Agency.

He succeeds Prof. Aliyu Jauro, who was initially appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in February 2019. Jauro was subsequently reappointed by Buhari in February 2023 for another four-year tenure.

Meanwhile, Ebitimi Amgbare, a retired naval officer and former commissioner in Bayelsa State, has been appointed as the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority.

Amgbare takes over from Dr Adeniyi Aremu, who was first appointed by President Buhari in January 2017 and later reappointed for another four-year term in January 2021.

President Tinubu expressed his expectations for the newly appointed heads of these vital agencies, emphasizing the need for unwavering commitment to the nation and adherence to the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service excellence to the people of Nigeria.

These appointments underscore President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring effective leadership and governance across critical sectors of the country.

As Nigeria continues to navigate various challenges, including environmental sustainability and development in the Niger Delta region, the appointment of seasoned professionals like Dr Barikor and Mr Amgbare reflects a strategic approach towards addressing pertinent issues and fostering progress and prosperity nationwide.

The President’s call for fidelity to national interests and service excellence underscores the significance of these appointments in driving positive change and delivering tangible results for the benefit of all Nigerians.

With capable leadership at the helm of these agencies, Nigerians can look forward to enhanced environmental standards and sustainable development initiatives in the Niger Delta region, contributing to the nation’s overall growth and prosperity.
