‘It’s False’, Presidency Shoots Down Reports Of N105,000 Minimum Wage

The Nigerian Presidency has refuted claims suggesting that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, along with the Federal Government’s negotiation team, have put forward a proposal of N105,000 as the new minimum wage.

This follows nationwide strikes declared by organized labor, prompting the Federal Government to engage in discussions with union leaders and eventually reach an agreement.

Subsequent to the negotiations, President Bola Tinubu was briefed by the negotiating team, directing the Finance Minister to present a new minimum wage template within a 48-hour timeframe.

The team led by Edun met with the president on Thursday but refrained from disclosing the specifics of the meeting.

Amidst circulating reports regarding the proposed N105,000 minimum wage, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, clarified that the claims were unfounded.

Onanuga took to Twitter to assert, “The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false.”

The denial from the Presidency has cast doubt on the accuracy of the reports, emphasizing the need for clarity and transparency in matters concerning wage negotiations and government directives.
